Grounded in professional relationships and governed by informal agreements, these consortia offer participants many opportunities for support, training and collaboration.

APHL provides guidance and resources on quality management system (QMS)-related regulations and accreditations, quality system essentials (QSEs), continuous quality improvement (CQI) and workflow design/re-design to help public health laboratories operate with optimal safety, efficacy and efficiency.
APHL is a Healthy People Champion, and we work to ensure vital public health laboratory issues are captured in the goals are included in each decade’s plan. For Healthy People 2030, we helped create two Public Health Infrastructure developmental objectives: an assessment of public health laboratory services and the use of emerging technology.

The Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA) established quality standards for laboratory testing performed on human clinical specimens, for the purpose of diagnosis, prevention or treatment of disease, or assessment of health. APHL maintains extensive resources to ensure laboratories can maintain their CLIA certifications.
