The survey examines staff education and experience, as well as their opinions on recruitment, retention and engagement features at their laboratory.

About the Workforce Profile Survey

The Public Health Laboratory Workforce Profile Survey is part of our wider collection of Public Health Laboratory Studies, and aims to provide a deeper understanding the public health laboratory community. The survey was first launched in 2016, with subsequent surveys in 2022 and 2024. Future surveys will be fielded every other year. With this regular cadence, we are able to capture trends and provide a more holistic picture of the characteristics and needs of public health laboratory employees.

The Workforce Profile Survey is an anonymous electronic survey distributed through convenience sampling, and all questions are optional. Explore the participation dashboard below to see response rates across all states:
