Join a group of organizations and individuals dedicated to advancing progress in laboratory practice, systems and policy. APHL membership is open to a wide range of organizations and individuals involved in public health. The largest component of our membership is United States-based laboratory institutions, but we also offer sustaining memberships and partner opportunities to companies, as well as individual-level memberships.
Find more information about our membership categories below and apply to join.
This category is for public health laboratories operated by US states, territories and commonwealths, including the District of Columbia. These members are central to national public health efforts and benefit from APHL’s advocacy, training and collaboration opportunities.
All institutions eligible for state-level membership are already APHL members.
Public Health Institutional—State Application
This category is for local public health laboratories operated by counties, parishes, municipalities, cities, townships, boroughs or other local jurisdictions within the US, including US-associated Pacific Islands. These institutions support community-level public health and gain access to APHL’s resources and professional network.
This category includes environmental, agricultural and state chemical laboratories, as well as other laboratories affiliated with states, territories, commonwealths and the District of Columbia, including US-associated Pacific Islands. These laboratories, while not traditional public health institutions, share an interest in public health issues and are eligible to join APHL to engage in training, technical assistance and collaborative initiatives.
This membership category is open to persons who have an interest in public health or environmental health but are not otherwise eligible for institutional membership. Individual members can engage with APHL’s professional community, access select resources and stay informed on public health laboratory developments.
To be eligible for the student category, individuals must be currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs related to public health laboratory science—such as microbiology, chemistry, public health or environmental health. Student members gain exposure to the field, access educational resources and connect with professionals to support their academic and career development.
Sustaining Membership is designed for industry and corporate entities that have an interest in public health or environmental laboratories and wish to actively support and engage with the work of APHL.
